History of the Resort

Iwasaki Sangyo Co. (Aust) Pty Ltd have been a key part of the tourism industry on the Capricorn Coast for over 30 years.

The Iwasaki family have privately owned the Capricorn Resort since the land was bought by Mr Yohachiro Iwasaki after a visit to the area in 1969.  His son, Mr. Fukuzo Iwasaki and now his grandson, Mr.Yoshitaro Iwasaki, have continued the business.

The Capricorn Resort was established in 1986 and was a major tourism destination and employer for the town of Yeppoon for several decades, employing between 300 and 350 people while operational.

The resort was operated by Rydges (until 2011) and then Accor under the Mercure brand until 2015, when Iwasaki took over management.  The accommodation blocks were closed at this time, while the golf course, club house and Tsuruya restaurant have remained operational.

The Iwasaki Group are proud of their long-held commitment to the region and their record of preserving the environment.  While the main resort has been closed for a number of years, the company has maintained a local presence in anticipation of the redevelopment.
